Location of Linh Ung Pagoda

Linh Ung Pagoda in Da Nang is located in Son Tra district, on the top of the Bai But beach with a tortoise shape looking out the sea, about 10km south-east from the city. From the temple, you can easily see the beauty of the sea and enjoy the cool air of the sea breeze.

Linh Ung Pagoda on Bai But, Son Tra is the largest pagoda in Da Nang city in terms of size (about 20ha) and art architecture. This is a pagoda located in the Son Tra peninsula tourism complex built with the harmony between the modern and traditional features, it is now a new tourist attraction of this beautiful coastal city.

The legend of the peace

People in Son Tra peninsula said that in the reign of King Minh Mang (Nguyen Dynasty, XIX century) there was a statue of Buddha drifting to the sand here. For that was a good omen, they set up a temple and since then, the whole area became calm, fishermen quietly do business for a long time. The sandy beach where the statue of Buddha drifted is called Bai But (meaning Buddha land) is also the place where the Linh Ung Pagoda was built.

You will be overwhelmed when witnessing the 67m high Bodhisattva statue. This place always attracts crowds of tourists and Buddhists to worship and enjoy the compassionate beauty of this statue. The statue stood on the mountain, with gentleness as protecting the fishermen off the coast. On the hat of Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara statue, there is a 2m high Buddha statue. In the heart of the statue, there are 17 floors, each floor has a total altar of 21 statues of Buddha with different shapes, face, and posture, called “there is Buddha in Buddha”. The whole of space creates a pure and peaceful scene as the place of fairyland.

From over seventeen towers, you can see the whole city, mountains and Son Tra peninsula perfectly. Further, Ngu Hanh Son Mountain surrounded by the long beach with smooth white sand appeared clearly in your eyes. Early in the morning or at sunset, the blue sky in the same cool breeze will give people a great impression. At night, standing at the pagoda gate, visitors of Vietnam package Tours also see a long light trail of city lights like a streak of stars in the shimmering fanciful night sky.

The main hall of the pagoda is roofed delicately curved tile. This is a traditional symbol of our nation. When entering the hall, visitors will have the sacred and pure feeling. In the middle of the altar, there is a statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, the right side is the one of the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara and the left is one of Buddha Tripitaka. All three statues are made of bronze.

The two sides of the yard are two rows of 18 Arhat statues – symbols of folk beliefs. The life of each Arhat was related to the mystery stories.
