Mentioning about beautiful Nha Trang, it is imperfect if you miss Long Son Pagoda. And those who have been to Nha Trang cannot miss this landmark. It can be said that Long Son Pagoda with Buddha statue here is the symbol of the beauty of this poetic city.

Long Son Pagoda is located at No. 20, 23rd Street, Phuong Son Ward, at the foot of Trai Thuy Hill, Nha Trang City. From a distance, Long Son pagoda has a very beautiful location, which is convenient for visitors of Tours in Vietnam. The pagoda was built on an airy and lush green hillside, next to crowded but still quiet streets. The houses of the Buddhism academy, the offices are in harmony with the massive temple, forming a complete structure hidden under the tall bodhi trees with lush foliage and bushes surrounding the bonsais.

Initially, the pagoda was a leaf-roofed house on the top of Trai Thuy hill (right at the White Buddha statue position now) with the name of Dang Son Pagoda. In the fall of 1900, the pagoda was completely collapsed after a violent fire, so the pagoda’s founder decided to move the pagoda to the foot of Trai Thuy Hill as it is today. When moving the pagoda to the foot of the hill, Ngo Chi Monk built a small pagoda with one main hall and two houses and renamed the pagoda from Dang Son to Long Son.

In 1936, according to the instruction of the Patriarch Ngo Chi, the Nguyen family donated all the property of Long Son Pagoda to An Nam Buddhist School Association to be the headquarter of Khanh Hoa Buddhism. It has been the headquarters of the Khanh Hoa Buddhist Church ever since. In 1938, the pagoda was renamed by king  Bao Dai as “Long Son Pagoda”. That proved that Long Son has become a famous temple, having a wide range of influence in the spiritual life of the people and Khanh Hoa Buddhists.

Admiring the beauty of the pagoda

The pagoda grounds are over 3,200 square meters. The main temple is spacious, dignified, there is a statue of Buddha Shakyamuni about 1.6m tall, 700kg weight; The statue has a large mirror that symbolizes the light of the Buddha behind it. In the pagoda, there is also Guan Yin Bodhisattva “thousand hands, thousand eyes” statue.

On the Trai Thuy Hill, in 1964-1965, Buddhists in Khanh Hoa and neighboring provinces together created the statue of Kim Than Buddha sitting on the foundation of an old Buddhist temple. Statue was concreted, with white color, the height of 24m from the ground, 21m from the base; the statue has the height of 14m and the diameter of 10m. Around the statue are the seven Buddhas.

From the pagoda, if you would like to go to the statue of Kim ThanBuddha, you will have to go up 193 steps. At the 44th step, there is the statue of the Buddha is 17 m long, 5 m high, behind the statue is a bas-relief depicting 49 disciples in direct contact with the Buddha. The statue was built in 2003.
