Located on the eastern side of Van Don Island, Quang Ninh Province, Co To Island consists of dozens of large and small islands with a total area of nearly 4 square kilometers, of which the three largest islands are Big Co To, Thanh Lan, and Tran island. The population on these islands is sparse. If compare Co To island to other places like Sapa Vietnam, or Halong bay Vietnam, it is not the most attraction place in Vietnam, but if you are looking for the peaceful, wild nature place, so Co To island will not disappoint you!
It took two hours for the speed boat to go from Cai Rong port to Co To Island or four hours if traveling by wooden boat. Often, trains to the island must overcome the waves. A month only has two days of clear and calm sea water. Fishermen here call such days as “Drop the disc without sinking”.
On the island, there are many beaches, in which Uncle Ho beach is the most popular beach by the residential area. The beach is very long and beautiful, there are markets, shops near the beach. The beach is a green pine forest, a paved road running along the sand, which people here called Love Road.
In addition to Uncle Ho beach, Co To has two other beautiful beaches that are Van Chai and Hong Van. Van Chai beach is on the western side of the island and is wild with long white sand, peaceful nature. Near the coast, there are some small bungalows to serve visitors. The east is Hong Van beach, quiet water, small wave, rolling like lake water, soft sandy shore, and not a crowded beach.
Co To also has a lighthouse which is considered one of the best- sighted lighthouses in Vietnam. Standing on the balustrade of this lighthouse, you will take in the sight of Co To Island, beautiful between the vast sea. Standing on the lighthouse, you can see the distant island of Small Co To, a deserted island with only grass, birds, and monkeys. Nearby is Thanh Lan Island emerged as a mountain range with white sand bordered around.
From the foot of the mountain, there is a lighthouse, walking about 20 minutes to the Bac Van military port, the water port is at the northern tip and has long no ships docked. From here we will see Co To island right be eyes, about half an hour boat ride.
In Co To is also a poetic beast, which is watching the sunset on the wharf, when the red sun gradually dying behind the mountains, the sky dyed a purple color.
